Winter season has started. We all love warm and comforting things in winter. Hot tubs are one of the most loved, comforting things to enjoy during the winter. Just like the hot, comforting stew from grandma, hot tubs keep you warm, and relaxed, but in a hot tub, it’s also snowing right above you. Hot tubs can also be used in summer, but the “season” for them is winter.
It’s pretty cold outside, even cars take longer to ignite their engines. The same here goes with hot tub heating, it’s a bit longer, but patience is the key. Just make sure to cover the hot tub, when it’s heating.
People always mistake the right temperature of the water. Somebody has to make sure, that the hot tub is heating enough and the temperature isn’t dropping. As the water freezes, the amount of it increases, that might cause serious damage to the main systems.
It‘s a must to plan ahead. Before using a hot tub, ask yourself a few questions: How full do you want it to be? For how long do you want to use it? If you get these questions clear, you can already be calm about the situation. For example: if you‘re planning to use it for the current day and tomorrow, you can calmly just keep the water in the tub for the next day, you‘ll just have to heat it up.
When it‘s time to empty your beloved hot tub, you really have to empty every drop of water from it, from every tube, hose, and all kinds of connections.
If you love massage and have the bubble massage system installed, you‘ll also have to empty it. At first, you have to blow out the connections and hoses, coming to the system. The tub has to be completely dry. Then, turn on the system and wait for 5 to 7 minutes, until all the water in the system is out.
If you own a hydro massage system, it‘s very easy. Water will be drained, when the blower is off.
If you haven‘t used your hot tub through all the winter, and in the end, you decide to use it, you must prepare it. First, again, the tub has to be absolutely dry. Every massage system, every connection, hose, pipe, tube. If you don‘t know how, please read the upper paragraphs.
There‘s another „if“. If you own a wooden hot tub, for example, Red Cedar model, then it is advised to consider a factor of humidity and other similar factors. Do not leave a wooden tub empty for a long time, if you want it to serve you for a long time, because it harms the wood. Humidity during winter is higher, so, if it‘s cold and dry, you can leave your hot tub empty outside, and unlike in wet and warm environments, you don‘t have to cover it.
To quickly recap: 1) keep the hot tub cover on when heating it up, 2) plan ahead – if you are using the hot tub very frequently, water will not freeze up if you leave it in the tub, 3) if the tub sits unused, empty all of the water out, 4) enjoy your hot tub during the winter months.
Happy bathing!
